Many Android TV boxes and TVs ship with only 8 GB of storage, and the system takes a big share of that. When it fills up, apps fail to install or update and things get slow. Here is how to get space back.
1. See what’s using space
Open Settings → Device Preferences → Storage (the path varies by brand). It shows a rough split between apps, downloads and system data, but it cannot tell you which individual files are big.
2. Find the big files
Downloaded videos, old APK installers and cached media are the usual culprits. A file manager that lists files by size shows them straight away. In Trunk , the Large files screen lists everything over 10 MB, biggest first, so you can tick what you don’t need.
3. Remove what you don’t use
- Uninstall apps you no longer open (Settings → Apps).
- Delete installer files (.apk) left over from sideloading.
- Delete old downloaded videos and large media.
- Clear app cache from an app’s settings page if one app is bloated.
4. Don’t delete blindly
On a TV there is no undo by default. Trunk moves files deleted from Large files to a Recycle Bin instead of erasing them, so a mistake can be reversed until you empty the bin.
Trunk: TV File Manager is a free file manager built for Android TV and a remote control. Get it on Google Play .
